Movie Summary [I Am Not What You Want]

Title: I Am Not What You Want / 天使
Release Date: 2001
Language:  Cantonese

English Subtitles? –  Yes

Cast:
(actor – character)
Chet Lam  – Ricky
Nicky Hung – Mark
Joyee Lam – Mabel
Carol Chan – Olivia

Basic Plot Summary:

May contain Spoilers!!!
And by ‘May’ I mean does!!!

After Ricky comes out to his family, he is cast out by his parents and now lives with his close friend Mark who has still not revealed his true feelings, not even to his girlfriend.
Mark finds one of Ricky’s magazines and becomes curious…he buys a magazine for himself but when Mabel (his girlfriend  visits he quickly hides it under the cover of the sofa, however his attempts to hide it fail when she sits down and discovers it. Thankfully, to avoid awkwardness she assumes it belongs to Ricky.
Mark and Ricky get closer and closer and it becomes obvious that Mark really cares for Ricky, one day after sitting on the roof and just talking, Mark indirectly confessed his feelings.

My Thoughts:

Short movie guys….short movie…
This movie was so sweet and super adorable!
Chet Lam and Nicky Hung are really really cute, and really great actors.

However, there is a definite lack of physical affection in this movie. I don’t mind too much because you can understand what is going on just by the way they behave around each other. For example, the day that Mark confessed(-ish) and they spent the night together, they could have either had sex, or just slept next to each other. Judging by the way they both acted during the night and the next morning I’m just going assume they made the sexy time.

The subtitled version I used to watch it….the subs weren’t that good, as they were white, so whenever they showed on a light background I had to guess what was going on.

I would have liked to have seen more action, but as I said before, it concentrates more on the emotional   side rather than the physical attraction between the guys.

I will rate it
6/10

Song Summary [下輩子再愛你 ]

Oh My GODDD I can finally do another song summary!!! I love BL Music Videos!!!!
(….prepare to be disappointed with this post lol)

下輩子再愛你 – Love Again in the Next Life

by
Fan Si Wei – 范思威

As usual, I have no idea what’s going on…
So please forgive me if I get it completely wrong….which is very likely as i’m going in completely blind.

What I gathered:
2 guys : CuteGlassesGuy (CGG) and SexyDancingGuy (SDG) are lovers, but SDG is engaged to his dance partner(?) DancingLady (DL)

OH GOD THESE GUYS ARE ADORABLE!
DL sees them together and kinda…creates an awkward tension…

DL and SDG gets married, i think…naturally CGG is devastated…SOMETHING HAPPENS!

Next thing you know DL and SDG are in the car while CGG walks past with suitcases…SDG goes out to help him then suddenly CGG AND SDG are making out in the elevator its wonderful…it really is!
…until stupid DL gets out of the car to probably go find SDG and then sees them. She’s a bit pissed off.

Okay and now this bit confuses me so much, so it’s better if you watch it and decide what happens for yourselves.
Did SDG decide he didn’t want to be with DL and that’s why he got hit by that man? Are SDG and CGG now together? Is that why he gave him the ring?? But why is DL still wearing a wedding dress?!
Uh god i have no idea!!!! I guess reading the lyrics would help in this situation…lol

But in the end… basically what happens is that CGG ends up dying *uncontrollable sobs* and SexyDancingGuy is reminiscing on the extremely adorable times they had together….AWWWH ITS SO CUTE AND SAD

Now that’s the video, the song is really really good too!

My Thoughts:

WATCH THE VIDEO.
LISTEN TO THE SONG.
BUY THE CD.
DOWNLOAD THE SCREENSAVER OR SOMETHING.

This song is just too awesome NOT to do those things!!! Those two guys are just PERFECTION!!!!
But i’m so sad to see it end so badly.
Why does BL movies and songs and dramas and….other forms of media containing Boys Love have to have such depressing endings?! 😦
I realise i haven’t been very helpful….in fact, i haven’t been helpful at all :\ Sorry about that! But watch the video….SERIOUSLY watch it!

HUMANITY: I DEMAND YOU LIKE THIS SONG!

The Episodes are really short….like 15 minutes long max.

This drama revolves around 6 guys:

Mike – 28 years old, he lives with Ben…and is somewhat “free” he goes for fun more than love

*~*

This drama mostly speaks about HIV and the importance of being tested and having safe sex.
It starts out with Ben and Mike passing out red ribbons, because of World Aids Day, and we are introduced to the characters.  Mike meets Chris. Ben meets Tom and Don. Mike also wanders into Jerry.
Tom and Don are discussing Don’s head injury…he was beaten up because he was gay.
Mike’s tap is broken in his apartment, he calls for maintenance and who shows up? Chris!
something goes down…Mike does some flirting, some light molesting and despite being gay himself calls Mike a “stupid f*g”.and storms out.
as the drama goes on we learn more about the connection between each of the guys.

My Thoughts:

*~WARNING!!!~*
May contain Spoilers!!!
And by ‘May’ I mean does!!!

It was an alright drama…If the point was to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS then mission accomplished!

I love the relationship between Tom and Don.
At first i was worried Tom was going to fall for Ben….I have a strict “If i think you two are meant to be together, Then YOU HAD BETTER BE TOGETHER” policy ^.^
I’m happy they got together but….they sure did take their time…

I thought Chris was adorable…and he reminds me of a guy i know…weird …
I thought he should either be with Will…or with Mike….so i’m glad it worked out
Jerry should have been with Mike….but i guess Will is good enough too.
Mike was just plain creepy at times…..ahaha xD

Dora is like THE BEST SISTER EVER! I hope that if anyone has a brother who comes out they show them the same love and support that she showed Tom….uh i’m gonna cry now. She’s amazing!!

BUUUUT despite the cute actors…and the general positive awareness thing it had going on….It was a bit ‘lifeless’….i didnt LOVE it, and i probably wouldn’t watch it again.
Sorry!! 😦

I rate this drama
4/10

My Thoughts:

CONTAINS SPOILERS

This film was…..hmmmm….I dont know.
It was alright. Totally weird at times.
The older lawyer guy was a bit too creepy for my liking. It annoyed me when his friend rejected him…and acted cold towards him afterwards. Eric has had a pretty crappy time…Its like this poor guy can never win!

I thought the relationship with Cheng was so lovely…I’m really annoyed that never worked out. The tit was only using him to get over the boarder. And what’s up with his parents?! Jeeeeez, his dad….seriously?!
But seriously though, Eric and Cheng were so sweeeeet 😦

This type of film isn’t really for me, I don’t like being left frustrated. And my god I was frustrated!~
Damnit Cheng! Why did you have to leave ?!T.T

I rate:
2/10

Cast:
Tae – A-Hong
Zhen Kang Tang – A-Shin
Yu Fa Yang – Jay
?- Kitamura
? – Siao Sih

Basic Plot Summary:

A-Shin and A-Hong have been friends since childhood, have always been really close 🙂
A-Hong finds out his self-obsessed girlfriend Risa (?) has put them in serious dept, A-Hong sees no way out….that is, until he sees a poster for a G-Boy Beauty Contest.
The catch? all participants have to be gay.
A-Shin, being the supported friend that he is <3, enters the competition too.
A-Hong and A-Shin are joined by 4 other (INCREDIBLY) attractive men competing to be the winner of the G-Boy competition.
Amongst them, An undercover cop , Jay, who has been charged with the responsibility to protect the competition from a wild terrorist attack by a homophobe.

My Thoughts:

CONTAINS SPOILERS

I really loved it, it’s definitely up there with Formula 17 on my list of lovely BL films.
The chemistry between Tae and Cheng Kang Tang is amazing!!!
Jay is amazing, I mean….woah…he is so cute in his suit.

This movie has moments of seriousness, humour, passion and romance…I really enjoyed it. I don’t think I could praise it enough!

Something else i liked: how the ‘relationship’ part of the story wasnt 100% about A-Shin and A-Hong  but there’s also Young Long and Daniel’s thing, Young Long’s relationship with his dad, A-Hong and his girlfriend..you know, things like that, which makes the movie less….two dimensional (….am I even making sense?!)

Think of this movie as a Taiwanese Gay version of Miss Congeniality…
This isn’t really a negative point but…the storyline isn’t 100% original, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! God no! But…it would have been nice if it didn’t have such heavy undertones of Miss Congeniality (again….not a bad thing…!!)

I really recommend it! Especially if you like light-hearted movies! If you prefer something more…heart wrenching and emotionally traumatising, maybe this isn’t for you.

I’m sorry that i couldn’t find out all of the actor’s names

[Side note….Was Yu Fa Yang in Formula 17? did he play Kevin? the guy who Tien met on the internet?! If not, wowaah they look similar!! ^^]

Update: yes it was!

I rate:
9/10

Also extra love for Taiwan for pumping out such attractive men and awesome movies… Me gustaaa

Songs:
The song that A-Shin sings is called : Courage (勇气) by Michael Wong

The actual tracks heard in the movie are by a band called ‘1976’
The song Modern Youth is what A-Shin and A-Hong sing at the start…AND end!! 😀

My Thoughts:

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS

The first time I watched this film I didn’t like it, now that I’ve seen it again I can’t quite understand why that is.
Admittedly I wasn’t blown away by it the second time either, but I did enjoy it – as much as anyone could enjoy having their heart smashed with a sledge hammer but I digress.

I was only able to understand half of this film, when I got about an hour into it the subtitles decided that they didn’t want to work. You know when they say “it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”, this cannot be applied to subtitles. It’s better to have never had subtitles than to have them cruelly snatched from your arms.
But anyway…no subtitles…yeah, so I had no idea what anyone was talking about for the last half of the film (excluding the scenes where they speak English).

I really liked the concept of mortality, as good ol’ Wikipedia says this film “examines the limit of life” which is 100% accurate, this film does in fact do that. It’s also “semi autobiographical” and I personally liked how we followed Ivan from his childhood to his eventual death.

Previously I rated it  3/10 but I’m going to bump that up to a 6/10. There are so many of you out there who would watch this film and thoroughly enjoy it’s realistic yet sad scenes but for me, I need to be in the mood to watch something that could ultimately cause an emotional breakdown. Some scenes were little awkward to watch (surprisingly I’m not talking about the scenes when everyone is wandering around naked) and I had to ask myself “would people really do that?”
But anyway, 6/10

My Thoughts

SPOILERS

The original post was on the 27th February 2012. It has been over 3 years since I wrote a post summarising this film. It was the worst post in the history of crappy posts, hopefully this update will be better and more informative!

I would firstly like to address how much of a ridiculous piece of stupid trash I was. This movie is really good!

I really liked the development of the two main guys, I thought it was really interesting. As the film progresses Sam’s history is revealed and his character starts making more sense. Jet changes his personality from an arrogant narcissist to a caring and innocent guy, just shows you how much he wants to be with Sam.

There was a serious web of connections in this film…everyone was connected somehow. Here is a breakdown:
First you have Jet who works and lives with Ching. Ching used to pine after a guy he worked in an office with called Fai. Fai, was with an aspiring singer called K.S. then K.S. and Fai parted ways and Fai became a policeman now going by Sam. Jet meets Sam and falls for him. Ching is still in love with Fai (aka Sam). Jet and Sam never officially get together, and K.S. is just floating about signing autographs and having sex,(he had sex with Jet once but I can assume he’s had multiple partners…)

I stated on my personal blog (extra feelings below) that I couldn’t really remember what this film was about but ohhhh boy. I remembered this film instantly when I saw Jet having dinner with Sam’s family. I remembered the ending. THE ENDING.

This film is really good.  If you read this post in 2012 then I’m sorry and please ignore everything I wrote. I really like this film! The ending was sad but it didn’t leave me emotionally distraught (looking at you Scud).

I will rate it

7/10
Originally I rated it 3/10 because, as previously stated, I am a pile of trash who doesn’t know good films when I watch them.

Movie Summary [Formula 17]

Title: Formula 17 / 17歲的天空
Release Date: 2004
Language: Mandarin
English Subs available? – Yes

Cast:
Tony Yang – Tien
Ducan Lai – Bai Tieh-Nan
Chin King – Yu
Dada Ji – C.C.
Jimmy Yang – Alan

Basic Plot Summary:
Innocent Tien travels to Taipei, to meet an internet friend…being the romantic lemon that he is he is disappointed when his ‘friend’ turns out to be sex hungry sleaze
Tien leaves and goes to a bar and runs into his friend from school Yu.

At the bar he becomes aware of a very sexy man: Bai Tieh-Nan AKA ‘Number 1 playboy’ as he is infamous for his one night stands.

Tien ends up staying with Yu and he gets a job in a gym and runs into Bai on many occasions, it’s obvious they both have feelings for each other, but will Bai’s nature as ‘Number One Playboy’ affect their….relationship?!

My Thoughts:

SPOILERS

In the original post I spent the entire time raving about how much I this film. If you think I’m going to do that again…then you would be completely correct!

I loved everything about this film. I think what I liked so much was how realistic their relationship was; the energy between Tien and Bai was so natural and for me, they really portrayed the innocence of a first love –  although Tien wasn’t technically Bai’s “first” he was still the first guy he loved.

The way they conducted themselves around each other: not knowing what to say, awkwardly shuffling around and not knowing what to do are exactly how you would imagine an encounter to be when you meet the guy you like. Oh it was so sweet!

I swear Tong Yang and Duncan Lai are amazing actors who had such chemistry, when Tien was standing outside Bai’s door and there was the awkward moment where they avoided looking at each other and then their eyes locked and shared their first kiss…..being able to portray emotion like that, even if it is only for a few seconds, is just incredible.

Yes the two main characters were fabulous, but what about Yu, Alan and C.C!
Ah those guys were totally hilarious and I think they really made the film.

Formula 17 really is my go-to happy film. Usually I watch a BL film and think “oh yeah it was good” and never watch it again, but with this film I’ve seen is so many times I’m surprised I don’t know the dialogue off by heart!

Plus it’s really nice to watch such a upbeat BL film when there are so many depressing ones out there! (looking at you Scud)

Also if you enjoy “light hearted” movies like this, check out Go Go G-Boys

My Rating, for this amazing movie, would have to be
9.5/10
(lost 0.5 because of those cringy moments, nothing is perfect !)

Watch Online
As of 2020 this film is still avaliable online on dailymotion – if you would like me to send you the link (if you can’t find it yourself) then please let me know!

Soundtrack:
It took me a long time to find these songs, since I couldn’t read Chinese at the time (I’m still not very good ahaha!) So I would just listen and type into google what I could hear…quite often it worked! So here are the two songs I could find in pinyin.

1 – From the scene with Tien and Bai on the scooter!
Wo Xiang Ni De Kuai Le Shi Ying Wei Wo – Rock Bang
2- From Tien and Bai’s sex scene
Ni Shen Bian – Stanley Huang
